TIME

Here are some ideas for earning the Time badge.  Some activities are designed to be done in a patrol or unit, others are designed to be done at home.

Suggestions have been split into ideas for Guides aged under 10 and Guides aged over 10, but feel free to mix and match - as long as it is a challenge for the individual girl!

Under 10

Play a Human Clock game – there is an example at this website.

Play One Minute (see Games section)

As a patrol, complete a series of Two Minute Challenges – ideas include tying reef knots, needle threading, transferring M&Ms with chopsticks, list animals, pass the ball around the circle, running laps of the hall, etc.

Take home a blank timeline of your life (download here) and bring it back filled in to share with your patrol.

Create a history of Guides – put a mixed-up timeline in the right order (good information can be found here which can then be summarised for the girls).

In your patrol, play the calendar throwing game (see Games section)

Time yourself doing something, then see if you can beat it

Make a calendar – draw your own pictures and write in dates that are important to you and your family (here is a blank calendar for you).

Make a calendar of the birthdays of all the Brownies in your unit.  See which month is the most popular.

Have a short discussion in your unit as to why it is a different time in different countries.  For some general information, see this website.

Play Scattergories at home or in your unit (read the explanation of the game, and download suggested categories here).

Over 10

Be able to explain the international date line to your patrol (here is a good explanation to get you started).

Have a debate (one patrol v another patrol) on daylight saving - for ideas, visit this website.

Make a calendar – for each month, draw something that you associate with that month or write a poem (for a good calendar template, check out this website).

Figure out how many days you’ve been alive.

Fill in a chart about how you’ve spent your time one week and see how you can improve your time management (download a chart here).

Create a history of Guides from the information found here.

Create a ‘Learning Ladder’ - list things you are learning now, and things you want to learn in the future and discuss them with your patrol (download a chart here).

See how long it takes your patrol to light a gas stove/fire, collect equipment and get 2 cups of water to boil (no running allowed!).  Add some salt to the water and see if that changes the time it takes.
