OTHER PEOPLE

Here are some ideas for earning the Other People badge.  Some activities are designed to be done in a patrol or unit, others are designed to be done at home.

Suggestions have been split into ideas for Guides aged under 10 and Guides aged over 10, but feel free to mix and match - as long as it is a challenge for the individual girl!

Under 10

Interview an older person about their life.

Learn to look after a baby.  Show how the correct way to hold a baby.

Help prepare and eat a food from a different country. There are lots of ideas here.

Do a 'warm fuzzies activity' with your patrol.  Draw a large tree on A4 paper, then use these leaves to write nice things about the other members of your patrol.  They will do the same for you and you can glue your leaves onto your friendship tree.

Participate in an international activity (see World Guiding in the Fundamentals section).

Learn to write your name in a different language.  There are some ideas here.

Find out how well you know your patrol - participate in a quiz based on identifying baby photos, handprints, footprints, likes and dislikes.

Play a game with your patrol or unit to find out who has done the most unusual things.  For everything that one girl has done, and nobody else has, she gets a point.  See who can get the most points.

Listen to a guest speaker to speak about their experiences growing up in another country.

Learn about a major festival from a religion - make a poster showing the food that is eaten, any particular clothes that are worn, and any particular activities or customs.  There is lots of information here.

Over 10

Organise a dinner or a party with other people.

Write down three of your own hopes and three of your own fears.  Then imagine what those of a girl in other countries would be – America, South Africa, Sudan, Bosnia, Switzerland, India are some ideas.  To learn a bit about each country, visit these country profiles.
