ARTS

Here are some ideas for earning the Arts badge.  Some activities are designed to be done in a patrol or unit, others are designed to be done at home.

There are suggestions for many different types of activities that can be classified as "Arts".  Feel free to complete a number of challenges from one category, or to attempt challenges from a variety of categories.

Art
Create something beautiful using only recycled materials.

Make a collage - you can use photos, natural materials, glitter, torn paper, beads, anything you like!

Draw a person.

Paint a design on an object or on glass.

Make a card for someone.

Paint a landscape.

Make a sculpture of clay or similar.

Make 3 pieces of origami.

Do a mosaic.

Do some beading.


Drama and film
Recite a poem to an audience from memory.

With your patrol, put on a play that involves costumes and props.

Discover three interesting facts about an actor, actress or director of your choice.

Play Space Jump with your unit (see Games section).

Do an impromptu talk of at least 1 minute on a topic you were given 5 minutes previously.

Perform a mime.

Put on a puppet show - either by yourself or with a group.

Play charades with your patrol.  Use the instructions under "modern version" on this website.

Write a review of a play or a film you have seen.

Photography
Know how camera works and be able to name the key parts.

Know how to take care of a camera. Be able to explain three things that should not be done to a camera. 

Know how to change at least 2 settings on your camera (eg zoom, flash, etc).

Know how to develop film or print out digital photos.

Make an album of photos that you have taken - make sure you include at least one of each of the following types of photos – person, landscape, group of people, inside photo, photo at night, animal, photo from an unusual angle.


Music
Pick a campfire song and make up new words to the same tune.

With your patrol, perform a song with actions.

Be able to explain something about the following types of music - opera, jazz, country, rock and classical.

Give a performance to at least three people on an instrument of your own choice.

Create a musical instrument of your own.

Set the Guide Promise to music.

Learn three interesting facts about a musician, composer or band.
