TENT

Here are some ideas for earning the Tent badge.  Some activities are designed to be done in a patrol or unit, others are designed to be done at home.

Suggestions have been split into ideas for Guides aged under 10 and Guides aged over 10, but feel free to mix and match - as long as it is a challenge for the individual girl!

Under 10

Spend 2 nights on a Brownie camp.

Be able to list most of the things that you will need to take to camp with you.  Here is a sample kit list to consider.

Participate in patrol duties when on camp.

Explain the reason why camp rules are neccesary.

Take part in a campfire.

Decorate a dilly bag (drawstring bag for plates, etc).

Help to cook a meal outdoors.

Draw a picture of a campsite that is harmful to animals.

Over 10

Spend at least 2 nights in a tent on Guide camp.

Know how to pitch and strike a tent.  Be able to put these instructions in the right order.

Take part in cooking and cleaning duties on camp.

As a patrol, strike tent in silence.

Cook an entire meal for yourself outdoors.  There are some good suggestions here.

Practice tying a bedroll (lay tarp on the ground, make up your bed (mattress, sleeping bag, pillow) on top, then fold the two long edges of the tarp in and roll it up from the short edge).  There are instructions for the knot to use here.
