BODY

Here are some ideas for earning the Body badge.  Some activities are designed to be done in a patrol or unit, others are designed to be done at home.

There are suggestions for many different types of activities that can be classified under "Body".  Feel free to complete a number of challenges from one category, or to attempt challenges from a variety of categories.


Food
Cut out 20 different foods from a supermarket catalogue and sort them into foods that should be eaten often, foods that should be only eaten sometimes and foods that should be eaten rarely.

Have a discussion with your patrol about body image and how it has changed over time.  There is some useful information in this powerpoint.

Make a healthy recipe at home or at Guides.

Decide on an unhealthy food to give up for a week.

Have a discussion in your patrol or unit about what you ate for lunch today and what you could improve.

You could also use an activity from the Food badge.


Water
Keep track of how much water you drink over a day and see if you can improve it for the next day.

Create a poster encouraging people to drink more water - there is some information here you could use to make the poster more persuasive.

Carry out an experiment whether drinking sports drinks during exercise is better than drinking water.


Exercise
Make up an exercise plan for yourself for two weeks and stick to it.

With your patrol, try 3 different types of exercise.

Make up a dance routine.

Be able to list 5 tips for exercising safely.  You can find some good information at this website.

Make up a stretching and exercise routine and teach it to your patrol.

Sleep
Draw the ideal bedroom to sleep in.

Play Sleeping Lions (see Games section).

Work out how many hours you sleep every night.  Compare this with other members of your patrol.

Have a discussion with your unit about why it is important to get a good night's sleep.

With your patrol, experiment with some relaxation techniques.  There are some ideas here.


Keeping clean and tidy
Learn the best way to brush and style/tie up your hair.  You could practice on a partner.  There are some ideas and tips here.

Be able to explain the importance of tying up long hair when doing cooking or sport.

Pick a song that lasts at least 1 minute to sing in your head while you brush your teeth.  Make sure you brush your teeth twice a day every day for a week.

With your unit, use Glo Germ or similar to see how well everyone washes their hands.

Have a beauty night with your unit or patrol.  There are some good homemade recipe ideas here.


Sun protection
Create a poster that encourages people to be sunsmart.

Complete two of the activity sheets on the Sunsmart website.

With your patrol, make up a radio ad about the dangers of getting sunburnt.

Demonstrate the appropriate clothing and protection to use at the beach, while playing sport, etc (either by bringing clothes or by drawing pictures).
